A Method for Estimating Weaning Weights of Range Calves at a Constant Age1

Marvin Koger and J. H. Knox

New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts2

Abstract

A convenient graphic method for estimating weaning weights of range calves at a constant age is presented. Weaning weights for 8 years were used to derive the estimating equation which was fitted to a nomograph chart. The equation adjusts for differences in birth dates as well as for age and is felt to be more satisfactory for some purposes than methods which do not take into account seasonal influence on growth rate.
