C. L. Shrewsbury, F. G. King, E. Barrick, J. A. Hoefer and L. P. Doyle2

Purdue University Agricultural Experiment Station,3

Abstract

  1. Data are presented which indicate that experimental calves were poisoned as a result of chewing a fence painted with lead paint.
  2. The symptoms found in these experimental calves were reproduced in calves that had received known amounts of lead.
  3. Cows and calves from the local slaughter house had livers containing little or no lead and normal kidneys.
