These details of style and form, required by the Journal of Animal Science for research papers, should be followed in preparing the first draft. Failure to do so can mean an inordinate amount of time later for reviewers, editors and authors. Keep this set of rules at hand when preparing a manuscript for JAS and ask your secretary to refer to it when typing the paper. The standards of the Journal are given inside the back cover of each issue under "Information for Contributors".
Manuscripts must be typed, double-spaced, and the ribbon copy and one carbon or a good reproduced copy submitted. A Running Head consisting of no more than 45 letters should be submitted with the manuscript. All pages, including pages for "Literature Cited", tables and legends for figures, must be numbered. Each line of the text must be numbered in the left margin, beginning with number one at the top of each page.
