Abstract

Dehydrated Coastal bermudagrass and rice straw pellets were fed as 0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100% of the ration during metabolism studies. Fecal collections were made daily and digestion coefficients determined for each nutrient on each of 7 days. The data were combined to give various length collection periods so that the error associated with each collection period length could be evaluated. Error mean squares and coefficients of variation for nutrient digestibility and fecal dry matter are presented. After 4 days were included in the collection period, variation did not decrease appreciably. Variance declined as the level of Coastal bermudagrass increased but was similar at the 40, 60, 80, and 100% rice straw levels.
