Abstract
A synthetic decapeptide gonadotrophin releasinghormone (GnRH)5 was used to induce ovulation in PMSG-primed, prepuberal gilts weighing 55 to 75 kilograms. Five of 10 animals injected with 1.0 mg GnRH ovulated within 48 hr. after the injection. However, single injectionsof 0.5 mg or less GnRH failed to induce ovulation. The route of GnRH administration, intravenous or intramuscular, did not appear to influence the rate of ovulation or number of gilts ovulating. GnRH-treated gilts that ovulated showed a peak serum LH concentration of 1.7 to 3.6 ng/ml within 24 hr. of treatment.
