Abstract
Fifteen crossbred gilts were used in this study. Resting blood samples were taken by catheter at 30-min. intervals over a 6-hr, time period. The relationships between insulin (I), glucose (G), free fatty acids (FFA), growth hormone (GH) and amino acids (
-NH) were studied. The correlation of I with G was 0.54, and the relationship of GH to G supports the hypothesis that GH level increases in response to lowered G level. As is indicated by the significant correlations, there is a tendency for the plasma levels of I, G and
-NH to vary in the same direction at the same time.
