Abstract
The comparative slaughter technique was used with 54 white-face ewe lambs to determine their NE requirements, on diets of 2.58 and 2.35 kcal ME/gDM, respectively. The ME was utilized with efficiencies for maintenance, gain and pregnancy of 64.9% and 63.0%, 47.8% and 40.6%, and 17.5% and 16.0%, respectively, for the high and low energy diets. The NEm was 1.67 and 1.48 kcal/gDM, NEg was 1.23 and 0.95 kcal/gDM and NEpreg was 0.45 and 0.38 kcal/gDM for the high and low energy diets, respectively. The daily NEm requirement was 64.4 kcal/ W
kg, and the daily NEg requirement was 428 kcal/Ag gain/W
kg. The NE values of the diets were incorporated into the following regressions for predicting NE values (kcal/gDM) of a diet from its ME content (kcal/gDM).
