Abstract
One-hundred-ten gilts were inseminated with boar spermatozoa that had been stored in Beltsville L1 (BL1) extender at 15 C for 6, 54 or 102 hours. The BL1 extender maintained boar sperm fertilizing capacity for 102 hr. of in vitro storage. The only indication of reduced sperm viability was a significant (P<.05) reduction in accessory sperm attached to the zona pellucida for 102-hr. semen. Fertilization of ova by spermatozoa stored in vitro did not significantly increase the incidence of embryonic or fetal mortality.
