Abstract
Tritiated polyethylene glycol was examined as a water-soluble intestional digestion marker in cattle. Poor and variable recoveries from the aqueous digesta phase was observed. In vivo and in vitro studies on the distribution of the marker among digestive fractions (aqueous and particulate) showed that marker association with the particulate fraction occurred. It is suggested that difficulties arise in the interpretation of results of the absorption from the aqueous phase because of the distribution of the marker between the two digestive phases.
