Abstract
THIS study was conducted to determine the effects of methallibure (1-
-methylallylthiocarbamoyl-2-methylthiocarbamoylhydrazine) and two of its metabolites [metabolite A: 2-methylamino-5-(
- methylallylamino)-1,3,4-thiadiazole, and metabolite B: 2,5-diamino-1, 3,4-thiadiazole] on thyroid function and uterine-ovarian characteristics in rats and gilts. Rats used in the study were treated for 10 days with methallibure or its metabolites and dosed with 125I- 24 hr. before sacrifice, whereas gilts were treated for 20 days and dosed 52 hr. before sacrifice. Thyroidal 125I levels were reduced in rats treated with methallibure and in gilts treated with methallibure and metabolite B. Treatments with methallibure, metabolite A and metabolite B reduced ovarian weight in the rat; however, only methallibure reduced uterine weight. In the gilt, only treatment with methallibure reduced uterine weight and follicular activity.
