Abstract
METHODOLOGY was developed for extraction of RNA from skeletal muscle and for gel electrophoretic separation of the RNA species. From the time of birth, DNA concentration decreased, while protein increased. RNA concentration increased rapidly and then declined. RNA profiles revealed that percentage 28 S decreased from an initial high level, 18 S remained rather constant, and 4 S increased. During the early period of rapid protein accumulation, 28 S was highest. When the 4 S peak was resolved into 4 S and 5 S, the 5 S remained constant after 1 week while the 4 S increased.
