Abstract
A highly significant increase in marbling score (intramuscular fat deposition) was obtained in stilbestrol-fed cattle with acute injections of 10 or 20 mg dexamethasone at least 33 days pre-slaughter. Environmental temperature did not affect response. Three-day serial injections of dexamethasone produced no response. Insulin did not augment nor duplicate results of the corticosteroid. Five g iodinated casein per head daily for 3 days decreased marbling score, especially when it accompanied dexamethasone. A 2-day treatment of oral methimazole had no effect.
