Abstract
Testosterone was identified in the spermatic vein blood of the boar. This steroid was also present in measurable amounts in the peripheral venous blood. Analysis of variance showed that the testosterone level in spermatic vein blood of boars with the highest backfat was significantly higher than the testosterone level of boars with the lowest backfat.
Testosterone levels of spermatic vein blood of boars sampled from 3 months to 9 months of age indicated that peak production is reached between 5 and 7 months of age, which is when sexual maturity is reached.
