U. S. Department of Agriculture2

Abstract

Sixteen boars which weighed an average of 70 kg were divided into four groups of four and fed a standard corn-soybean meal diet. Two groups were fed either 1 or 2 mg of lindane per kilogram of body weight per day for 3 weeks. In addition to an untreated group, a fourth group was sprayed twice with a 0.5% lindane solution. Levels of lindane in the backfat at slaughter were 0.19, 5.15, 19.50 and 44.25 ppm for control, sprayed, fed 1 mg and fed 2 mg groups, respectively. Corresponding levels in the I. dorsi were 0.05, 0.57, 2.37 and 6.55 ppm.
