Abstract
A plastic spiral (IUD) in the uterine lumen depressed hexosamine concentrations in endometria of both follicular phase and pseudopregnant rabbits. This effect was localized to the uterine horn containing the IUD, and indicated decreased mucopolysaccharide content of the tissue. Concentrations of hexosamine tended to be higher in endometria of pseudopregnant than follicular phase rabbits, but the differences were not statistically significant.
Vascular function in the endometrium, as measured by tissue uptake of circulating vital dye, was greater in follicular phase than in pseudopregnant rabbits, but was not significantly altered by the presence of an IUD.
