Abstract
The genital tracts of 41 gilts with mixed reproductive history were classified according to six phases of the ovarian cycle and subjected to histometrical and histochemical analysis. Significant cyclical variations were found in the oviduct, the uterine horn, and in the vagina for a number of histometrical and histochemical (polysaccharides) criteria of epithelial cell activity. There was also a tendency towards cyclical variation of the enzyme alkaline phosphatase in the endometrium and in the vagina, but these changes were not significant.
