Abstract
Unilateral maintenance of CL occurred on the ovary ipsilateral to the pregnant uterine horn in gilts made unilaterally pregnant on day 2, but bilateral maintenance of CL occurred when gilts were made unilaterally pregnant after day 12. The signal for maintenance is mediated unilaterally. Increasing the embryo:CL ratio from 1:2 to 2:1 did not affect progesterone content of the CL. The concentration of progesterone in CL from gilts with one oviduct resected was higher than that in controls. In gilts which had one oviduct resected, both the total content and concentration of progesterone were higher in CL on the intact side than on the resected side.
