Poloxalene for Bloat Prevention in Lambs1

H. Lippke2, R. L. Vetter and N. L. Jacobson

Iowa State University, Ames

Abstract

The results of this study show that poloxalene in grain and in molasses-salt blocks reduces the incidence and severity of bloat in lambs. The response to poloxalene was highly variable, however, and the amount of poloxalene required per unit of body weight to effect an appreciable decrease in bloat was much higher in lambs than has been observed in cattle.
