Abstract
An arrangement was devised to measure the amount of feed consumed and time spent by cattle at each visit to a box type feeder. Results of a study in which 25% and 89% hay rations were offered as coarsely ground mixtures or as pellets indicated that the rate of consumption varied with ration but does not vary appreciably on a diurnal basis. Therefore, the diurnal measurement of time at the feeder may be considered an accurate measure of cattle feeding patterns.
