Abstract

Data from studies on the use of fetal electrocardiography with 46 head of dairy cattle were obtained. Fetal electrocardiographs could be obtained with a very high degree of accuracy during the last trimester of pregnancy. Multiple pregnancies could be detected with ease. The fetal heart rate decreased with fetal age. Amplitude of the fetal R wave and polarity of the fetal R wave, appeared to vary with fetal movement.

Fetal electrocardiography, using the cow as an experimental animal, might be a useful tool in studies on factors affecting the fetal heart.
