Abstract
Conclusion: We live in exciting times. Challenging opportunities for the scientifically trained animal scientists abound. As educators, we must accept the leadership challenge for designing and presenting viable research and teaching programs having relevance for today's science-oriented student. Industry, business, government, and educational institutions are seeking animal science graduates who have new insights on the scope of animal science as a profession built on a sound educational foundation. Curriculum changes and the development of new courses to strengthen and to enrich the typical animal science curriculum are needed. There is no formula or predetermined pathway for success. We can, though, build from a strong base that reflects the ingenuity and integrity of the great men and women now pursuing professional careers in animal science.
