Gossypol Toxicity Studies with Sheep

Richard J. Danke1, Roger J. Panciera2 and Allen D. Tillman3

Oklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station, Stillwater,4

Abstract

Results from injection studies involving 31 crossbred wethers indicate that sheep display pathological changes as the result of gossypol toxicity similar to those of non-ruminants. Results of two feeding trials indicate that gossypol, when fed in highly concentrated diets, exerted no adverse effects on the sheep.
