Abstract
Incubation of Rumen Contents With Casein Or With Microbial Protein In The Presence Of A Fermentation Inhibitor Resulted In A Rapid Increase In Amino Acids. In The Absence Of Inhibitor There Was A Rapid Increase In Ammonia. Similar Incubations Of Natural Feedstuff Protein Resulted In No, Or An Insignificant, Increase Over That Of The Control With No Added Substrate.
Pitfalls In Interpretation Of Data From StudIes On Rumen Proteolysis Are Discussed. Particularly Stressed Are The Secretion Of Urea Into The Rumen And The Ready Digestion Of Microbial Protein And Ammonia Production Therefrom.
Rumen Proteolysis of Natural Feedstuff Protein was Concluded to be Undesirable, Unnecessary, Insignificant and not Subject to Experimental Demonstration.
