Extension's Challenge in Relation to the Youth of Tomorrow1

E. W. Aiton2

University of Maryland, College Park

Abstract

The opportunity to project into the future with more than 1,000 of our nation's best educators, scientists and biological authorities is in itself an almost overwhelming challenge. I appreciate very much this invitation to explore a few ideas with you. I shall draw liberally from the literature, contributions and innovations made in the past by a number of you who are present in this audience. My prime objective is to stimulate thinking, provoke discussion and hope that in the months and years to follow we from Maryland may benefit from your reactions, suggestions and findings in the field of educational work with youth.

I assume that you have heard and accepted the challenges delivered by Dr. D. W. Colvard and Dr. Melvin Bradley. Their excellent papers have posed and probed many of the changing trends, problems and needs which are now exposed to us as opportunities for greater service.
