Abstract

Four Guernsey and four Holstein calves were used in a study to determine the effect of jackbean urease injections on anti urease production and performance of young cattle. Serum urease antibody was demonstrated in calves 4 weeks after the first injection of urease. Titers became equivocal 35 days after the last injection. Differences in rate of gain between immunized and control calves appeared to follow blood serum antibody titers.
