Abstract
Research workers in animal science have desired to see a greater degree of standardization or uniformity in reporting data. This thinking became very apparent during the Coordinated Beef Improvement Conference at Fort Collins, Colorado in July 1961. Many present at that conference felt that an accurate evaluation of certain data in the literature is not possible due to inadequate reporting. The consensus of opinion was that the American Society of Animal Science should at least strive to set forth guide lines in reporting data in order that a proper scientific assessment may be made.
At present it is difficult to separate science from "folklore" in some publications. This criticism is not applicable to all work reported, but unfortunately it does apply in too many instances. Unscientific terminology is most often found in papers presented at our various meetings, in feeder's day mimeographs and experiment station bulletins rather than in journal articles.
1 Presented at 54th meeting of American Society of Animal Science, November 23, 1962.
