Somatic Chromosomes of the Domestic Pig1

Abstract

Leukocytes of fourteen domestic pigs were grown in tissue culture, and the metaphase chromosomes in mitotic cells were analyzed. The diploid number with few exceptions is 38. An XY sex complex is presumed since a heteromorphic pair of chromosomes occurs in material obtained from males.
