Abstract
Three rumen fistulated cows were fed two, four or eight times daily in a 3 x 3 Latin-square experiment. Digestibility of dry matter, energy, and nitrogen were not significantly changed by feeding frequency. Increased feeding frequency increased significantly the nitrogen retention. Relative amounts of VFA, the ruminal pH, and the fecal Cr2O3 excretion pattern were not associated significantly with feeding frequency. Ruminal ammonia and VFA levels as well as pH values fluctuated significantly less when the animals were frequently fed.
