Abstract

Using barley as a reference standard the net energy of various kinds of beet pulp was determined. The net energy of barley determined by a feed increment method was 61.5 megcal. per 100 lb. of dry matter. Using this value as a standard the NE of plain beet pulp fed at 24% in the ration was 51.1 megcal. per 100 lb. of dry matter. Beet pulp containing approximately 28% CSF solids contained 45.7 and 50.9 megcal. NE per 100 lb. of dry matter when fed at a level of 24 and 48% in the ration. The addition of 25% of molasses solids increased the NE to 56.6 and 60.5 megcal. when fed at 24 and 48%, respectively. Plain, CSF and molasses pulps contained an average of 83, 79 and 95% as much NE as did barley fed in this study.
