Abstract
A series of four growth and fattening trials as well as one digestibility trial were conducted to determine if any benefits could be obtained by feeding lambs at more frequent intervals than twice daily. Several types of rations were fed including ground mixed, pelleted and conventional rations. Variations in the roughage level and source of roughage were also studied. Feeding lambs four or six times over a 12-hour day or four or six times over a 24-hour day did not produce faster gains or more efficient feed conversion than feeding twice a day. This was true regardless of the type of ration or source of roughage studied. No effects were noted on ration digestibility or nitrogen retention due to frequent feeding.
