H. H. Van Horn, Jr.2 and E. E. Bartley

Kansas State University, Manhattan

Abstract

The effect of saliva and linseed meal mucin solution on the release of trapped gas from frothing rumen contents was testein vitr. The addition of either 80 ml. of saliva or linseed meal mucin solution was found to increase the rate of release of trapped gas from 200 gm. samples of frothing rumen contents. Hence it appears that reduced salivation is a factor in bloat etiology.
