Comparative Lengths of the Gestation Periods of Aberdeen-Angus and Hereford Cows Carrying Purebred and Crossbred Calves

Abstract

Hereford dams with Hereford calves in utero showed an average gestation period of 289 days. Aberdeen-Angus dams with Aberdeen-Angus calves showed an average gestation period of 272.8 days. Dams with crossbred calves, regardless of which way the cross was made, showed an average gestation period of 281.4 days.
