Abstract
An analysis of data involving large, intermediate and small type Poland Chinas had shown that large type sows farrowed almost one more pig per litter on the average than intermediate type sows and that intermediate type sows excelled small type sows by approximately the same amount. Type differences in litter size were highly significant and accounted for about 4.2 percent of the total variance. A part of the variance thus accounted for presumably was due to type differences associated with differences in sow weight at mating. It is concluded that most if not all of the type differences in litter size were genetic in character.
