Topics which Received the Most Attention at the Tierzucht Congress, Zurich, Switzerland 1939

Abstract

Discussions at the Tierzucht Congress at Zurich this past summer included much more than we would consider under the translated subject Animal Breeding. The topics covered much of the material we include in animal husbandry. Most of the presentations were in German with a few in French and only one in English.

The general procedure in conducting the Congress was of interest. One man had been selected to discuss each of the principal subjects. All papers pertaining to this subject were submitted in advance to the leader, who then summarised the subject including the material submitted. Accordingly only one man appeared formally before each meeting and this allowed for much discussion from the floor. It also effectively saved time for the Congress in the matter of deleting much of the material not pertinent to the subject but often included in papers. There are objections to this method but I thought that the advantages easily off-set these objections.
