Limiting the swine ration to three-fourths of a full-feed didnot materially lower the amount of feed required to put on aunit of body weight. Limited-fed animals were not as well finished, however, as were those that were full-fed.
The apparent equalityof feed costs per unit of gain at thetwo levels of feedingappears to be the result of two compensatingfactors; namely, body composition and maintenance requirements, rather than factorsof digestion and metabolism.
The assumption that individualfeeding trials lead to resultsof doubtful practical interpretationdoes not appear to be wellfounded. The present study is infull agreement with the groupfeeding trials thus far carriedout on limited swine rations.
