Preservation of Spermatozoa

Henry A. Lardy and Paul H. Phillips

University of Wisconsin

Abstract

Summary and Conclusions: The data presented herein indicate that the yolk-buffer pabulum developed for the preservation of bull semen is likewise applicable to the storage of semen of other species. It was successfully used to preserve motility of stallion semen for relatively long periods.

There seems to be a common optimum pH for the storage of ram, bull and stallion semen. Sperm survival in storage has been shown to be a good index of potency for the bull.
