Abstract
In opening the 32nd annual meeting of the American Society of Animal Production it is appropriate that I take a few minutes to lay before you certain facts concerning the present condition of the Society.
The primary business of our Society is to provide a forum for discussing problems in our field, and a testing ground for presenting our newest ideas and most recent findings to the criticism of our colleagues before those findings are extended to a wider public. For this purpose to be achieved fully it is important that we preserve much of the volunteer nature of our program. The individuals who help our Secretary arrange a program must spend some time and work on this but, if the same man is not asked too frequently to arrange a program, this is an effective way of making our programs respond to the real wishes of the membership.
