Abstract
Observations of heat periods were made on a group of thirty-five heifers on pasture during the season of 1938. These heifers were on a farm about four miles from the main University herd, and were checked for heat morning and afternoon. "Mounting" and "standing" were taken as indications of heat. The data are presented in Table 1.
The information on the presence of follicles and on ovulation (Table 2) was obtained from the same group of heifers. Examinations were made once daily at approximately twenty-four hour intervals though in some cases examinations were made during the morning of one day and the afternoon of the next.
as shown in Table 2 all animals examined during heat showed a follicle present, while none examined as late as the fourth half day following heat had a follicle present. On the other hand, in 30 cases ovulation had occured not later than the third half day following the end of heat.
