Improving commercial beef herds

A. C. Allen

Colorado State College

Abstract

To be quite frank, I hardly know how to approach this subject. I do not presume that our problems are a great deal different than they are in other states, although there may perhaps be some difference in our methods of approach. As far as my telling how I approach a job or proceed or get results is not going to be of much help, I am afraid, to fellow Extension workers.

One time, many years ago, I was on a fishing trip with the Dean of our college and it happened that I was fortunate enough to be catching a few fish when the rest of the folks in the party were getting practically none. The Dean finally told me that unless I told him just how I was getting the job done he would see that I did not graduate. I told him that I really did not know how to go about telling him as all that I was doing was throwing my fly out in such a manner, and I then proceeded to let it down on the water, and he told me that no self respecting trout would take a fly that came on the water in that manner.
