Teaching livestock feeding to college students

F. B. Morrison

Cornell University

Abstract

The title which was assigned to me by Professor Kays, the Chairman of the Committee on Instruction, for this paper was "Teaching Live stock Feeding to Animal Husbandry Students". However, I have decided to discuss a somewhat broader subject, "Teaching Livestock Feeding to College Students", because in most agricultural colleges the same course in livestock feeding is given for students specializing in animal husbandry and for those majoring in other fields. Furthermore, if I were to give separate courses in livestock feeding for animal husbandry majors and for other students, I should cover substantially the same ground in both courses.

In discussing this subject, we should first consider the objective of a college course in livestock feeding. I believe that the primary purpose of the course in livestock feeding. I believe that the primary purpose of the course should be to acquaint the student with the principles and facts that will enable him to feed any class of livestock efficiently and economically under the local conditions in any particular district.
