Artificial Insemination Conference

Fred F. McKenzie

Abstract

During the fall of 1935 interest among men concerned with artificial insemination in farm livestock led to an informal meeting of about sixty men in the John P. Harding Hotel, Chicago, December 1, 1935. A committee (L. E. Casida, Wisconsin, Secretary; Fred F. McKenzie, Missouri, Chairman) was elected at this time and instructed (1) to make a survey of the investigational work under way and projected in the United States and Canada that might be directly concerned with artificial insemination, and (2) to call another meeting, if such was deemed desirable.

A second conference was held November 27, 1936, in the Hotel Sherman, Chicago, in connection with the annual meetings of the American Society of Animal Production; about ninety attended. During the year the committee had surveyed the field and distributed a mimeographed report. In addition certain significant Russian publications on various phases of artificial insemination were translated and briefed by Dr. V. Berliner (University of Missouri) and these too were mimeographed and circulated; a list of references to the literature is appended.
