Minutes of the twenty-ninth annual business meeting

November 28, 1936

Abstract

The meeting was called to order at 2:30 p. m. by President Wm. J. Loeffel.

The Committee on Investigation presented the following report, which was ordered printed, so that it could be studied by all members with a view to final action being taken at the next meeting (see also page 207 of the report of this Society for the 1929 meeting).

A METHOD FOR DETERMINING FINENESS AND UNIFORMITY OF GROUND FEEDS

For the past number of years the modulus system has been used to determine the fineness of ground feeds for livestock. A description of this method is as follows:

A single figure, therefore, represents the fineness. This is ideal for the Agricultural Engineer in connection with power tests, et cetera. One disadvantage, however, is that the modulus determination does not show the uniformity of the ground feed. For example, we can have a perfectly uniform ground sample retained on one screen only and we could have also a non-uniform sample distributed in part upon each and all of the screens.
