Abstract
FEEDS
The digestibility and metabolizable energy was determined on two lots of Russian thistles, one coarse and one fine stemmed, alfalfa hay, heavy and light barley, heavy and light wheat and on some emmer. The heavy barley, from the crop of 1934, weighed 44 pounds to the bushel, and the light barley, from the crop of 1935, weighed 36 pounds to the bushel. Both lots of wheat were from the crop of 1935 and weighed 53 and 42 pounds to the bushel. The emmer weighed 36 pounds to the bushel. The alfalfa was a good leafy, moderately fine stemmed hay with a pale green color.
EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE
Twelve yearling wethers were used in the trials. During the test period, they were kept in metabolism crates which were provided with screen bottoms and drain pans for collecting the urines. The feces were collected in bags attached to the sheep. The test periods were 10 days in length.
