A symposium on Junior Livestock Shows

W. E. Morris

University of Minnesota

Abstract

Our Junior Livestock Show differs in many respects from those held in other states. To bring you a clear picture of this difference you need to understand first the magnitude of this show and the method of financing it.

At this show held in November only our meat animals are exhibited. All breeding projects are exhibited at our State Fair in September. This year at our Junior Show all but two counties in the state were represented by exhibits totaling 950, owned by different exhibitors from Minnesota and 50 exhibits from 6 counties in Wisconsin, or a total of approximately 1000 exhibits. The cost of the show in prizes, entertainment, and transportation of the exhibitors is about $12,000, $7500 of which comes from a state appropriation made to our State Livestock Breeders Association. The balance is by donation from South St. Paul and St. Paul business organizations, individuals, and firms.
