Creep Feeding Range Calves—Final Report

E. B. Powell

Ralston Purina Company

Abstract

At our last meeting a progress report was made covering the results of creep feeding in West Texas. The detailed method of procedure, location of the ranch, etc. were covered in that report which was published in the "Record of Proceedings of the Twenty-seventh Annual Meeting," page sixty-three, January 1935.

During the past year the experiment was continued along the same lines and on the same ranch. One pasture of calves received creep feed while the other pasture was not creep fed. In this last year's work the calves in each pasture were marked according to ages. The early calves were designated as 1A and 2A respectively, while the late calves were designated as 1 B and 2B respectively.

Because all the calves within a pasture ran together at all times and, in the case of those being creep fed, consumed their feed from a common supply, it was not possible to separate the feed consumption according to the early and late calves.

Table 1 is a resumè of three years' experimental work, including the results from two pastures in each season.
