A Travel Course for Animal Husbandry Students

A. B. Caine

Iowa State College

Abstract

The past two years the Departments of Animal Husbandry and Agronomy of Iowa State College have cooperated in conducting a Travel Course for Agricultural students. The course is described as—"A tour and study of the major livestock and crop regions of the United States. The influence of climate, soil, topography, markets and other factors on the livestock and crops produced. Methods of production and management."

The complex problems of Agriculture are demanding of our leaders a far broader training and a greater familiarity with agricultural conditions in other sections than have been available to them heretofore. The problems of the Corn Belt, the Wheat Belt and the Cotton Belt are decidedly interrelated, and in order to assume a leadership in any field in Agriculture, knowledge of the conditions and problems elsewhere is necessary.

For a number of years there has been a growing interest in travel courses, planned to supplement the resident work offered by colleges and universities.
