Abstract
Dr. McPhee has pointed out the scope of genetics in a broad way and his presentation of the subject is both comprehensive and stimulating. The suggestions which I am offering largely concern the live stock breeder's point of view as I understand it.
Although live stock breeders have on the whole asked the geneticist for little they are intensely interested in genetics. The breeders are interested in the application of genetics primarily for two purposes. The first is for further improvement of their herd or flock and the second is for improvement of their chosen breed. Requests for information by breeders have been for the most part for knowledge of the inheritance of certain traits in which the breeder was particularly interested. I think that the frequency of these requests will increase in the future. Therefore, I deem it important that the geneticist maintain an interest in the occurrence of characters which arouse more than casual or passive interest among breeders, and whenever possible for him to do so he should make an effort to determine the mode of inheritance of such characters.
