Systems of Pasture Utilization

James E. Comfort and E. Marion Brown

University of Missouri and U. S. Department of Agriculture Cooperating

Abstract

  1. There are some indications that the rotation system of grazing has proven beneficial to the bluegrass.
  2. The use of a supplementary pasture, such as Korean Lespedeza during the mid-summer has made it possible for cattle to make good gains through the hot dry period when the bluegrass is usually dormant.
  3. Applications of nitrogenous fertilizers have stimulated the early growth and greatly improved the palatability of bluegrass.
