Abstract
An extension program to be of value must be practical. In planning our work for the line which we wish to promote, we should at all times keep in view market requirements, development of the live stock for particular markets, and things in a practical way that will assure the live stock breeder or farmer the greatest net return over a period of years.
We will take for instance the state of Wisconsin. We have men in our extension department at the university who have done sound, practical work among the farmers of the state in helping to develop high class live stock. It seems to me that one of the important things in starting an extension program is first of all the breeds that we should promote for that locality. In Wisconsin for instance, it would be useless to promote fine wool or Dorset sheep for the reason that the market demand does not call for these breeds.
