Minerals for Range Cattle

J. L. Lantow

New Mexico Experiment Station

Abstract

At the New Mexico Experiment Station, we have fed the following minerals to cattle in an experimental way; bone meal, di-sodium phosphate, mono-sodium phosphate, and mono-calcium phosphate. In all cases, these substances were compared with a control lot fed salt.

Three lots of cattle were used consisting of 25 cows per lot. Each group had its pasture, although the pastures were rotated every 28 days so as to eliminate the factor of pasture from influencing the results. During the breeding season, three bulls were used, one to each lot. The bulls were rotated every 5 days to assure uniformity of breeding.
